Jon W. Alston Sr.
October 18, 1975 - March 6, 2018
Minister Jon Alston of Chesterfield, Va. was born October 18, 1975 in New Jersey to Henry and Marge Alston. He also has two brothers. Jon accepted Christ into his life at the age of nine and was baptized at the First Baptist Church of Anderson. Jon became the first Junior Deacon at the First Baptist Church.
Growing up in Warren County, he attended the Washington Township School System and graduated from Warren Hills High School in 1993. Jon developed a zeal for basketball early in his life. Playing basketball at Warren Hills High School, he set school records in assists and was a 1000 points career scorer as a four-year starter. After graduating, he accepted an appointment to the US Naval Academy, where he attended Prep school for one year and later the academy for one year. At that time, he transferred to Tennessee State University. At TSU, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice. Led by a desire to help others, his employment focus was in the field of teaching and social services. He accepted his first position teaching at Good Shepard Christian School. He went on to hold other employment positions in Human Service fields in New Jersey and later in Virginia. Jon met his wife Joy in September of 2008 in Norwalk, Connecticut where they were married in 2009. Of their union, there are four children. Shortly thereafter they relocated to Virginia. The family then joined the Mount Zion Baptist Church. Jon was licensed to preach the gospel in 2013. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife and best friend, Joy Alston; children, J'Khari Doyle, Jon Alston, Jr., Autumn Peterkin-Alston, and Ariyanna Peterkin-Alston. He will be greatly missed by his parents Rev. Henry and Marjorie Alston; his brothers Lamarr Alston(Laura) and Omar Alston (Stacey); five brothers-in-law and six sisters-in-law. There are also a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. |
