Richard Menichelli

Richard “Rich” Menichelli was from Trenton, New Jersey, the only child of his parents, Richard Menichelli, Sr. and Carol who both predeceased Rich in 1993 and 2016 respectively. After graduating from Hamilton High School in 1995, Rich went onto graduate from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1999. He earned his Project Management Professional (PMP) from the Project Management Institute in 2009. Rich also attended the University of Southern California in 2015 taking classes in the Master of Science in Civil Engineering Construction Engineering & Management program.
He served in the U.S. Navy until 2004. Rich was assigned to NAS Kingsville from 1999-2002 and then served aboard the USS Nimitz from 2002-2004 when he was honorably discharged. Rich transitioned into the civilian sector. From 2004-2005 Rich was a Project Engineer and Manager with Kleinfelder, where he assessed and took remediation actions to obtain regulatory closure for 11 of California’s Leaking Underground Storage Tank sites with a budget totaling $1 million. He supervised and performed soil, vapor and groundwater sampling, observation and analysis on more than 30 projects. He achieved a record of zero health and safety incidents on 25 projects over a one-year period. Rich went on to be an Operations Manager at Sun Lee Holding Company from 2006-2008, where he directly supervised eight personnel and four investment properties totaling $10 million. He developed and implemented a business plan to acquire a 91,000 sq. ft. office building and increased its revenue by 20% by raising occupancy and rental rates, lowering costs through renegotiating contracts with vendors. From 2008-2011 he worked as a Construction Project Manager at Kroger in the Los Angeles area. In this role he led an integration team of more than 15 cross-functional groups and successfully managed $56.4 million worth of construction projects. He also doubled the number of fuel centers built in a one-year period, contributing to the company goal of 1,500 fuel centers in operation by 2011. Rich participated in "Trudging Buddies" AIDS/LifeCycle in California, loved his two dogs, Briscoe and Brodie and is survived by his aunt and uncle, Kathleen Ann and Terrance Beachem, shipmates, and many friends. |
